There are three paint products that we commonly use to restore the non-skid surfaces on damage repaired decks or decks in need of being spruced up. Awlgrip polyester urethane with their Griptex additive provides a very good surface and is probably the longest lasting with proper care. KiwiGrip- a hard acrylic polymer developed in New Zealand- has been in use in the area for awhile now and offers an affordable and durable alternative to Awlgrip. It can be applied directly to properly prepared gelcoat and previously painted surfaces without the need to prime the surface first. It comes in five basic shades but can easily be tinted to match the existing gelcoat color on deck or to any shade that you require. We have restored 4 decks with KiwiGrip since early 2011 and have been very pleased with the process and the results. Interdeck is a one part polyurethane coating with the grit already added into the paint and is put out by Interlux. It is fairly easy to apply and comes in five basic shades. The pictures below offer some examples of each system. There are also several decking systems available such as Treadmaster Anti- slip Deck Covering by Lemar and PlasDeck Synthetic Teak Decking among others. Although they tend to be a bit more expensive to install they are extremely durable and pleasing to the eye. |
